The Great Lakes are the world’s largest system of fresh surface water. Its five lakes—Superior, Huron, Michigan, Erie and Ontario—are visible from the moon and hold about 20% of the world’s freshwater supply. They were carved out and filled by prehistoric glaciers, and cover more than 243,000 km2 (93,823 sq mi). This is one of the most biologically diverse regions in Canada with more than 150 fish and 50 plant species, some of which are not found anywhere else on earth.

Formed by powerful forces of time and geology, the amazing Great Lakes form a vast, continuously flowing waterway system that links central North America to the Atlantic. This system holds about one-fifth of the planet’s fresh water, its lakes are so large that they are visible from space. The fourth coin in our exciting series of fine silver enamelled coins featuring the amazing Great Lakes highlights lovely Lake Michigan.

Great. Great! Lakes! Take Care Of Them!

I think this is amazing!

I think its' clever of the mint to highlight a resource unique to only Canadians and Americans in such a way like this. Having this abundance of fresh water right here in the form of the Great Lakes is something that I believe some of us forget how wonderful it is and take it for granted. Never giving it a thought when we turn on the kitchen tap, of how lucky we all are. I am certainly not one of those people, I live on the shore of Lake Ontario. It is right there in plain view out my back garden gate. Well done you at the Mint!

Our Lakes

Every Canadian should have a set, they are our Great Lakes!

Most Impressive Coin Yet!

The other ratings so far are misleading; those reviews have nothing to do with the coin itself, voicing only complaints about packaging and shipping! In my opinion this is the most appealing coin of the Great Lakes subscription yet -- even more so than Superior, which was also a "superior" work of numismatic art! Lake Michigan was well worth the wait; unlike the complainers, I like the fact that the mint spent the time to do it right and did not ship out an inferior product in a rush. I truly appreciate the concern for quality in this series. Bravo!

Order still processing... Long delays

As a Master Club member, you would figure that you would receive the coins as soon as possible from the mint. Wait times are incredibly long... Same issue with the new silver Superman coins.

Horrible packaging

Very disappointed in the packaging the coin arrived in. The mint is really slacking now.
