Designed by Canadian artist Don Komarechka, your coin transports you outdoors on a winter day, to experience the magic of an idyllic snowfall. Finely detailed engraving presents a sampling of different shapes and sizes of snow crystals that may be found in nature, depending on atmospheric conditions. As our ice crystals softly tumble down from the silvery sky overhead, your eye is naturally drawn to the up-close view of three frozen wonders that are the true stars of this winter-themed design. Blue sparkle enamel masterfully captures the icy beauty of the six-sided dendrite and hexagon-shaped ice crystals, whose complexities and shine are artfully heightened by the brilliance of a proof finish. The reverse features the engraved word "CANADA", the year "2018", and the face value "20 DOLLARS". The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box.

I would not buy this product again

The quality is extremely poor compared to the photo. I have the previous snowflake coin by the same artist and it is fabulous. This 2018 execution by the mint sucks.

I purchased this coin and the necklace making kit but didn't realize that the coin is too big for that. Do you have any suggestions as to how I might make the coin into a necklace?

Hello and thank you for asking. If the coin is too big, we suggest perhaps going to a reputable jeweler to find out if they have bigger bezels that could accommodate your coin. If the kit was purchased at the Mint and received less than 30 days ago, please call our Customer Solution Centre at 1-800-267-1871 as it can be returned for a refund.

How do I remove the coin from its encapsulated case?

Hello Shirley and thank you for asking. It can be a bit tricky. You will find a groove between the two capsule pieces. Insert a fingernail or a little screwdriver to start separating the top from the bottom. You have to twist and pull until they come apart. Be careful not to drop the coin or scratch it especially if you use a little screwdriver.
