FOURTH AND FINAL COIN IN SERIES! A very Canadian welcome to visitors on Parliament Hill! Order today!

The fourth coin and final coin circles back to where it began, at the ceremonial entrance to Parliament, where all who wish to enter must do so under the watchful eye of a fiercely regal animal guardian. Standing guard with its unicorn counterpart, the lion Keeper of Parliament has stood at the west side of the sandstone-lined entrance since 1938. The 1.8-metre tall carving is based on the lion supporter of the Arms of Canada and the Royal Arms, and was sculpted by a team of carvers who worked under the direction of the first Dominion Sculptor of Canada, Cléophas Soucy. The Centre Block’s stately, roaring lion is the last of our featured Keepers of Parliament. The lion rules your selectively gold-plated 10 oz. silver coin, where its veryfinely engraved likeness is an incomparable tribute to the enduring legacy of Canada’s parliamentary carvers.

Add this regal 10 oz. pure silver gold-plated lion coin to your collection today!

Design:

The reverse image by Canadian artist Patrick Bélanger stands before the ceremonial entrance on Parliament Hill, in Ottawa, Ont., where a heraldic lion supporter is carved into the west side of the sandstone-lined entryway. On the reverse, the noble animal is deliberately positioned to convey the towering height (1.8 m) of its real-life counterpart, while gold plating highlights the Union Flag and the Shield of the Royal Arms of the United Kingdom. The sculpted figure is paired with an ornamental flourish, whose floral motif is based on a frieze that also adorns the Centre Block’s grand entrance. The reverse includes the face value, “100 DOLLARS”, and the words “CANADA 2018”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Did you know…
  • The lion is the heraldic symbol of England in the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom, and it is one of two supporters of the Arms of Canada.
  • It is one of the most common heraldic animals—a centuries-old symbol of courage, nobility and strength.=

Packaging:

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box.
