Coin design:
Designed by Canadian artist Joel Kimmel, your coin features a dynamic portrait of a 1914-era steam train traversing the Grand Trunk Bridge in Saskatoon at the time of the railway's completion. In a striking composition that evokes the drive and energy of the early 20th century's theme of "progress," Kimmel presents a steam engine pulling elegant wooden passenger cars. With its wheel arrangement and vast steam engine bellowing a long cloud of smoke, the image is true to the locomotives of the Grand Trunk's construction era. The scene's vantage point on the foliage-lined shoreline and slightly below the left side of the train bridge enhances the drama and grandeur of the moment.

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box.

Waste of Money

Why did they even bother? I would have thought there would be a reference to Grand Trunk Pacific somewhere, on the locomotive perhaps, but no. Yet the designer of the coin managed to get his initials on it. 50 yrs from now one of these will be found in Granny's attic and nobody will know what it was made for.

Great Quality, Not So Great Price

Beautiful Design. Great size format allows for lots of detail. Way overpriced based on bullion value.

Gets noticed

I dig the 2oz. size, and it seems to be focused on Canadian engineering, like the Vickers gun, and art coins that give you lots to look at. These are just great because it gives a size that can feature the details clearly and accurately.

The iron Horse....a Powerful Locomotive

With the current low price of silver, more careful discretion has been going into purchasing only coins that are true quality. This coin falls into this category. The 2 ounce size allows great detail to go into the locomotive and the trellis bridge. The artist nailed the perspective in this coin and it looks very much in correct proportion. The coin is considerably more impressive when viewed in person. Expensive ....but a true quality piece of Canadiana artistry in silver. In my opinion, a sensible purchase.

I can find nothing to dislike the coin is excellent. I think the railroad theme will work for those that collect for profit or some thing to leave the grandchildren. Years down the road the grandchildren and their children will ask questions like, what did people do with train. You mint did a whopping good job!
