Keep the memory alive

A century after the First World War ended, Canada remembers the Armistice as the culmination of four years of valour and sacrifice that stretched from the Ypres Salient to Vimy Ridge, and from Passchendaele to Mons, where the ceasefire marked the end of hostilities and the beginning of our need to never forget. Canada’s 2018 $2 circulation coin commemorates the centennial of the Armistice of 1918; twice featured in this collection, the coin pairs a poppy with a soldier’s helmet in a powerful expression of a nation’s gratitude for peace and the contributions of our combatants, who are collectively remembered every November 11.

Honour the 100th Anniversary of  the Armistice of 1918 with this 6-coin collection. Order today.

Special features:
  • A SIX-COIN SET: Your 2018 Armistice 6-Coin Collection includes the following Canadian circulation coins:
    • 5-cent
    • 10-cent
    • 25-cent
    •  $1
    • Two different versions (engraved-only and selectively coloured) of the new  $2 Armistice Commemorative circulation coin
  • A SOLEMN CENTENARY: Our special-issue $2 coin honours the 100th anniversary of the ceasefire that brought an end to the First World War.
  • A SYMBOL AND COLOUR OF REMEMBRANCE: The selectively coloured version features a symbolic touch of bright scarlet on the reverse, where the poppy is a widely known symbol of remembrance that was inspired by the Canadian poem In Flanders Fields.
  • PERMANENT SECURITY FEATURE: Also included on the reverse of the $2 coins, the engraved maple leaves are both a symbol of Canada and a cutting-edge security feature that ensures the coin’s authenticity.
  • Keep the Memory alive: Each $2 coin is a collectible tribute to our combatants of the First World War, and a pledge to never forget.

Special-themed $2 coin design:

The reverse image by Canadian artist Laurie McGaw marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of 1918 with a poignant pairing of two symbols of remembrance. Within the brass-plated inner core, a soldier’s helmet represents the end of the First World War and serves as a solemn reminder of the many lives lost during history’s first mechanized war. Below the helmet lies a large poppy, the official bloom of remembrance inspired by the Canadian poem In Flanders Fields, and whose bright scarlet colour is re-created on selectively coloured versions of the $2 coin. To represent English and French, two more poppies are engraved on the nickel-plated outer ring, which includes a banner bearing the bilingual words “REMEMBER”, “SOUVENIR” and the year “2018”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Did you know…
  • The Armistice was signed in the early morning hours of November 11, 1918, but the fighting continued until it came into effect at 11 a.m.
  • The Armistice was a formal agreement to end the hostilities, a ceasefire—the war officially ended on June 28, 1919, with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.

A collectible tribute to Canadian and Newfoundland  men and women who through their courage and sacrifice paved the way to peace. Order today.

Great gift for a Veteran

I bought this as a gift for a Veteran who commented on its beauty and uniqueness.

Kemptville, Ontario

Timely and Irrelevant to the brave men of WWI

Served in Vietnam with some Canadians that had volunteered and joined the American Army. I have always admired and respected their sense of what is right. I believe that sense of right played a big part with why so many Canadians served in the Great War!

Can U buy just 2 of the $2.00 coins.?I would like to have 1 for my late husband 12/19/2017 and 1 in memory for my late Father-In-Law 10/31/1969 who was in Vimy Ridge. My Husband was an avid coin collector. Thank U for your consideration.

Hello and thank you for asking. The $2 Armistice coins are only available in a Special Wrap Roll or the commemorative set. You will find the coins in your change as well as they are circulation coins.

Why would it cost over 21 dollars ??

Hello Iris and thank you for asking. The cost is determined by many factors. It can be the design, the mintage, the demand, what is being commemorated. This is meant as a collector items, not coins to be used.

Why tax was charged on the purchase?

Hello and thank you for asking. The taxes are added to your purchase as the coins are not pure gold or pure silver and they are presented as a set.

Are the individual coins sealed in plastic,or is there an overall coating?

Hello Donaldo and thank you for asking. The coins are simply placed in the collector case. They are not sealed in plastic.

Any postage stamps?

Lucky lynda

Hello and thank you for asking. We do not have postage stamps to sell with these coins. Perhaps you can try Canada Post.

Canada Post does have stamps. I saw them today. very nice collector sheet available as well.

Last year there was an option to order 5 uncirculated Remembrance day twoonies in a special folder (1 per household). Not this year? (I really don't want the other uncirculated 2018 coins, just the twoonies)

Hello Murray and thank you for asking. The sealed packages are not offered this year. You will be able to find them in your change.

Yes, u can buy the toonie by itself.

why not the armistice only, why do i have to buy complete set?

Hello Steve and thank you for asking. This year we decided to launch the set and the special wrap roll only. You will be able to find them in your change.

Can I get an empty card and fill it in with coins I find myself?

Hello Amelia and thank you for asking. We do not have empty collector cards available for these coins.

When is the new $2 Armistice coin to be released into circulation?

Hello Carole and thank you for asking. The $2 Armistice coin, both plain and colored, have been released in circulation.

When will these coins be in circulation? I'm from Vancouver where the mint shop was permanently closed. Where can I exchange for these coins?

Hello and thank you for asking. The $2 is now in circulation. Please note that circulation coins go into circulation through financial institutions.
