LAST COIN IN THE SERIES! Big Spirit Moon is a time to reflect upon the healing powers of the universe. Order today!

Big Spirit Moon is a time to reflect upon the healing powers of the universe and create our own vision of the truth. It’s the thirteenth teaching from Grandmother Moon in Anishinaabe tradition that views the moon as a living relation who makes 13 appearances throughout the year to watch over Mother Earth’s children and light their paths with her gentle wisdom. The 13th moon marks the beginning of a long spiritual journey to contemplate the universal knowledge we have received, and how to apply it to our individual roles and life circumstances. Like the mother and her child that is being purified by a feather, each one of us must discover our personal truth to live our greatest ideal for the benefit of our family and community.

An ideal coin for someone who enjoys Indigenous art. Order today!

Design:

Algonquin artist Frank Polson has created a captivating image of a full moon behind a leafless tree. A woman stands to the left cradling an infant in her arm that is being purified by a feather overhead. The healing energy of the universe—the teachings, songs and stories—that are given to children by their mothers and grandmothers—flows from the feather to the child with a luminescent glow that bathes the pair in the ethereal beauty of moonlight. The vibrantly coloured shapes and dark flowing lines within the composition are signature design elements in Anishinaabe art and represent the universal life force that connects and animates all things.

Did you know…
  • “Anishinaabe” means “the good beings” or “original person.” It is the ethnic term for the Algonquian tribes of the Great Lakes, such as the Ojibway, Algonquin, Ottawa, Nipissing, and others, and is spelled and pronounced in various ways. Although the tribes’ cultures and languages are similar, each has its own distinct leadership and identity.
  • Anishinaabe art is often referred to as “woodland art.” It promotes Anishinaabe culture by depicting traditional scenes in what are commonly known as “legend paintings” or “medicine paintings.”

Packaging:

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box.
