Little Spirit Moon brings us a time of healing. Order today!

Little Spirit Moon brings us a time of healing so we can live our lives with the purest intentions for the good of all. It’s the twelfth teaching from Grandmother Moon in Anishinaabe tradition that views the moon as a living relation who makes 13 appearances throughout the year to watch over Mother Earth’s children and light their paths with her gentle wisdom.

In December, long nights and quiet days give us time to go within, to care for ourselves physically and spiritually. Only with rest and silence can we restore our health and receive the vision of how to live our lives—a way of being that enables us to walk the Red Road with joy and gratitude, respect, honesty, and caring. Little Spirit Moon fills us with positive energy that we can share to uplift and enrich our families, friends, and all our relations on Earth.

Design:

Algonquin artist Frank Polson has created a captivating image of a full moon behind a leafless tree. A man stands to the left, gazing down the Red Road in quiet contemplation, his pipe at the ready to carry his prayers to the Great Spirit. The feather headdress reveals he has been honoured for four separate achievements, and the strands of hair that flow from his face are symbolic of his connection to the web of life as a sacred part of creation. The vibrantly coloured shapes within his silhouette are a signature design element in Anishinaabe art and represent the universal life force that animates all things.

Did you know…
  • The Red Road is a recent term used by many Indigenous people to describe a way of life, a consciousness. It is more than ritual or ceremony, and governs the way people conduct themselves in their daily lives—feeling gratitude for Mother Earth and all her gifts, living with a spirit of sharing and caring that are the cornerstones of harmonious co-existence between all beings.
  • For many of North America’s Indigenous people, feathers are the greatest honour that can be bestowed upon an individual. Although variations exist between communities, the type of feather, how it’s worn, trimmed and decorated are all highly symbolic. Feather headdresses are never bought, always awarded, and are often worn to represent the people the wearer serves.
  • The pipe is highly symbolic and central to many Indigenous cultures. It acts as a conduit, holding prayers within the burning tobacco and then releasing them in the smoke. During a formal ceremony, a Pipe Holder will inhale the prayer, and exhale it in the four directions to invite the spirits to join the ceremony, and carry the prayers to the Great Spirit.
