Designed by artist Virginia Boulay, the reverse celebrates a Canadian emblem through its depiction of a sugar maple (Acer saccharum) branch with five leaves. The reverse includes the curve text "CANADA" above a maple flourish and the year "2020". The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

"For me, a very proud and patriotic Canadian, the maple leaf signifies peace, strength and the endurance of Canadian life. Its magnificent shape is broad and welcoming, and it is steadfast through the cycles of life—robust with spring's renewal and fiery with autumn's decay." Virginia Boulay: Artist

Did you know…
  • Aside from the one featured on our national flag, the maple leaf isn't an official symbol of Canada–but the maple tree is. Acer, the generic maple species, was recognized as Canada's arboreal emblem in 1996.
  • Why is the sugar maple, Acer saccharum, one of Canada's most important trees? It's the main source of the sweet sap used to produce maple syrup! Canada supplies 76 % of the world's supply of maple syrup.

Each coin is encapsulated and makes an attractive collection when all six coins are shown in your display case.
