Designed by Canadian wildlife artist W. Allan Hancock, this fully gold-plated pure silver coin captures a close-up of the unforgiving reality of predator and prey within Canada’s picturesque wilderness. The dramatic scene depicts an elk’s last stand against two hungry wolves. The prey is stranded in water, cut off from all escape routes, while the predators cautiously close in on their target. Set in gorgeously rendered Canadian nature, the artist’s mastery breathes life into this snapshot, making it feel real and dynamic.

About the Artist:

W. Allan Hancock has dedicated his life to art since his early years. A full-time self-employed artist since 1995, he has a multitude of achievements in his Curriculum Vitae.

Did you know…
  • The depiction of an elk as prey was not coincidental. Elk and other large hoofed animals are the preferred prey of hungry wolves.
  • A wolf pack can track larger prey for days before striking. With a herd of elk, the wolves will take their time to assess its targets and pick the weakest one.
  • While the elk is a herbivore, it is not defenceless. Wolves occasionally find themselves injured or killed, either struck with a hoof or impaled on antlers.

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box.
