I would not buy this again.

The jade is not the vibrant green as in the promotional pictures. It was a dull grey. I am completely aware that jade is naturally occurring and the color cannot be uniform between any two coins. But I would have thought the manufacturer would have had the good sense to stay true to the color in the marketing materials. This seems to be a running theme with RCM. Disappointed here.

Nice coin, but not green jade, like the picture

Over all it has nice detail, but not sure if it actually comes with green jade. My coin is with completely white jade and it definitely does not "pop" like the green jade looks in the RCM picture. It actually washes out the detail when looking at the coin from a distant. When it is in a darker area the jade darkens and it definitely looks better. Also nothing to due with the coin, but it took over a year for the mint to send me the coin and when I opened it and saw the white jade, instead of the green jade, I have to admit it was a bit of a disappointment until one gets use to the white jade and again in a darken room it does appear more green. Would recommend, but be prepared that the coin may not truly look like the picture and could look a little "washed out".

It's looks nice, but not what I expected, the jade is yellowy white not green. I would expect some kind of green there. Should show a few variations of colour here so I expect something else. Overall it's nice but I think it's overpriced too much if I need to to take a chance if it doesn't look like what I wanted

Chad

Why does the Canadian mint sell this coin. It isn't minted in Canada or have anything to do with Canada.

The coin guy

We sell coins from a variety of mints around the world as we feel these coins offer collectors interesting opportunities to broaden their collection. They also provide access to themes or technologies that are not available on RCM coins.

Josh (Product Team)

Canada is a country of multiculturalism. "Canadian" does not only mean the white Europeans any more! Canadians of different culture and race origin also form parts of the country! The Royal Canadian Mint presents their potential customers no matter what race they belong to, a selection of interesting products which may interest some Canadians/non-Canadians alike. This coin may not be of interest to one white coin guy, but other coin guys of different colour are interested in it.

A Canadian Yellow Coin Guy

In response to the answer given by 'Canadian Yellow Coin Guy'......The question being asked was why the Canadian Mint were selling coins produced by other mints. I too was under the impression that they only sold coins that they produced except under special circumstances. I'm not sure why your response references "white Europeans" and the like. Hinting that this was some sort of racist question. I found your response insulting and uncalled for.

Mike

is there any others prior to this release, or is this the first with one to follow every month of 2017? thanks

Arlin

This is a stand alone coin. It is not part of a set or series. There are no other coins that sell with it.

Josh (Product Team)

Don't agree to the previous answer as I have been collecting this series since 2011 the rabbit but it is the first time I have seen one thru the Canadian mint.

Which mint produced this coin ?

Zen

These coins are from MDM in Germany.

Re: Year of the Rooster - 2 oz. Pure Silver Coin with Jade Insert and Selective Gold Plating Cat.# 159991 This coin is advertised as being produced by the Mint of Laos. Does Laos operate its own mint? Do they arrange to have special coins produced at another Mint? If so, which one? I ask this because a web search informs me that no coinage is in circulation within Laos, which implies that they do not have an operating mint in Laos. Please advise, Regards, M.A. Tisdale

mati

Thank you for your question. There was a miscue in our original text. This coin is currency of Laos, but was produced by MDM in Germany. The web page has been updated.
