The Mint is hiring a Advisor, Corporate Health & Safety who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Health & Safety, the Advisor, Corporate Health & Safety is responsible for providing technical expertise, analysis, recommendations and support in the management and resolution of health and safety related issues at the Winnipeg facility and on occasion, at the Ottawa Plant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess hazards and risks by conducting ergonomic assessments, exposure assessments, chemical reviews, risk assessments, equipment reviews, job hazard analyses, and using other similar analytical tools.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new equipment, materials, and processes to ensure that standards, codes, and legal requirements are addressed.
  • Assist with the implementation of controls to mitigate hazards identified.
  • Perform accident and incident investigations, submit reports to regulatory authorities within required timelines including Labour Canada, WSIB (Ontario) and WCB (Manitoba), evaluate accident and incident trends, and implement strategic action plans designed to target problem areas, operations, etc.
  • Act as an advisor to management on specific actions for mitigating health and safety risks, addressing employee complaints, and dealing with day-to-day health and safety concerns.
  • Support psychological safety and protection at the Mint and engage in corporate strategies.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver health and safety training and assist with the promotion of health and safety related initiatives.
  • Develop and lead the implementation, roll out and continual improvement of health and safety programs and procedures as well as safety culture enhancements at the Mint.
  • Conduct workplace safety inspections, job hazard analyses, monitor indoor air quality and assess exposure to chemical/physical agents.
  • Conduct performance and compliance audits of Health, Safety and Environmental Program elements to determine effectiveness and opportunities for improvement.

Requirements

Language Requirements:

  • English proficiency is essential. Bilingualism is considered an asset

  

Education & Designation:

  • University degree or certificate in a related area or a combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered
  • Occupational Health and safety designations such as ROHT, ROH, CIH or CRSP (with industrial hygiene experience) certified candidates or those working toward one of these designations are preferred

  

 Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of related business experience in a medium-to-large organization
  • Manufacturing health and safety role within audit, risk review and hazard assessments experience

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), preferably in D365.

  • Autonomous, but also able to collaborate within various teams and act as technical lead to junior colleagues.
  • Pro-active and open to receiving feedback and making suggestions.
  • Significant attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills by providing confident recommendations and insight to develop wider solutions to business issues and opportunities.
  • Able to follow policies, procedures, and precedents to provide consistent specialist support.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills and deliver presentations across various formats and audiences

  

 Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of the Canada Labour Code Part II, the Canada Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and the regulatory framework in Canada as it pertains to workplace health and safety
  • Working knowledge of occupational health & safety programs
