Bullion GENESIS™
Provenance & Supply Chain Tracing
From mine to customer, tracing gold’s journey through the supply chain has never been as seamless and secure as it is today. The Royal Canadian Mint is the first Canadian refiner to implement an innovative business-to-business solution, Bullion GENESIS™, that offers participants in the precious metal refining and manufacturing ecosystem the possibility to perform end-to-end tracing, and certify the provenance and integrity of gold deposited and processed through our refinery.
Connecting the Industry
The software solution powering the platform is the Bullion Integrity Ledger™ by aXedras, a solution based on distributed ledger technology (DLT) that connects the precious metals industry and has the potential to offer meaningful benefits to participants:
- Enhanced traceability: Access to recorded transactions allows for enhanced traceability of material sources and transfers;
- Improved data security: DLT’s immutable, encrypted and decentralized nature ensures data is exchanged at the highest level of security and integrity; and
- Greater market confidence: The achieved transparency fosters even greater trust along the value chain.
Explore how this technology is supporting the precious metals industry.
What is DLT & Why it Matters in Precious Metals
DLT is a secure digital system that records transactions across a network of authorized participants rather than a single centralized database. Records are cryptographically validated, immutable once approved and shared only with permitted parties, giving participants full control over their own data.
In the precious metals industry, DLT addresses a long‑standing challenge: balancing confidentiality, transparency and integrity.
Sensitive commercial information must remain private, while investors, customers and regulators increasingly expect credible proof of responsible sourcing and production. Traditionally, improving transparency risked exposing confidential data or weakening trust. By operating as a private, permissioned network, DLT resolves this trilemma — enabling immutable, auditable records while restricting data visibility to relevant parties only.
How it Works
UPSTREAM
Participating mines, recyclers and other precious metals suppliers record relevant details about the origin of the supplied material and adherence to market standards directly in the platform, creating a provenance record.
AT THE MINT
When the material is received at the Mint, additional refining, production and fabrication data is added to the corresponding provenance record. If a refined precious metal product is produced by us, then an Integrity Certificate containing descriptive details about the product and its provenance is created.
DOWNSTREAM
Registered platform users such as institutional investors, fabricators, dealers and distributors of certain Mint refinery products, can securely access data related to their product, including the integrity certificate and, if available, the linked provenance record.

As a long-standing London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) Good Delivery certified refiner, we are proud to support industry‑wide efforts to improve transparency and trust in the precious metals supply chain.
Through Bullion GENESIS™, we are adopting DLT to enable new levels of transparency across the precious metals value chain — without compromising privacy or security — ultimately allowing us to track and record the origins, transformation and custody of gold that enters our refinery.
Refinery customers currently seeking outturn products (400‑ounce, 100‑ounce, 1‑kilo or grain) made from segregated gold of a specified provenance can benefit from Bullion GNESIS™ as of today, with more products being introduced as we continue our transformative journey.
