The Mint is hiring a Chief Information Officer (CIO) who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Security and Information Technology (IT), the Chief Information Officer will be responsible for the vision and strategic leadership for developing and implementing our IT initiatives. You will oversee the planning and implementation of IT systems including large-scale digital transformations to enhance cost-effectiveness, service quality, and business development initiatives. You will be the key person to ensure all aspects of IT operations are aligned with the Mint’s mission, vision and values while building and empowering teams through expert leadership and effective communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set the overall strategic direction of IT services with a focus on identifying opportunities to leverage technology to improve the customer experience, productivity, operating efficiency, fact-based decisions and manage risk.
- Provide inspirational leadership to the IT team by coaching, mentoring, and encouraging employees through effective performance feedback, career planning and development opportunities.
- Help establish a culture and work environment that promotes excellence, teamwork, inclusivity and psychological safety resulting in a positive employee experience.
- Direct the creation of new concepts, programs & services where there may be considerable unknowns to enhance shareholder value, customer service, and employee satisfaction.
- Oversee the planning, selection, purchase, development (customization), and implementation of new IT systems and applications to support the achievement of business objectives and ensure all investments are aligned with the Mint’s priorities.
- Ensure the day-to-day operation of the technology infrastructure and systems to maintain a high percentage of up time to meet the needs of the business, ensure the resilience of data, and timely recovery.
- Provide oversight and direction in the development, implementation, and updating of policies and processes to ensure the quality, accessibility, and safeguarding of the organization’s information as well as compliance with applicable privacy laws and legislation.
This is a position in which you will be required to work from the Ottawa location with some travel to the Winnipeg location on occasion.
Requirements
Language Requirements
- Bilingual in both official languages (English and French) with strong written and oral communication and presentation abilities.
Education
- University Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline. An advanced degree and/or graduate degree would be considered a strong asset.
Experience
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant and progressive management experience.
- Experience in strategic and operational planning and execution of initiatives with a longer-term horizon of three (3) to five (5) years.
- Experience in presenting strategic content at a senior executive level.
- Experience implementing large scale, complex IT projects and integrations.
- Strong experience in business administration, financials, people management and leadership practices.
- Experience with cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud-based solutions.
- Experience leading an organizations information management, data governance, data analytics, business intelligence tools, quality assurance testing, architecture and applications solutions.
- Experience working in a manufacturing and/or unionized environment is considered a strong asset.
Additional Qualifications
- Knowledge of emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and IoT, and their application in business.
- Knowledge of cloud technology best practices for migration strategies, data governance, cloud architecture, information security, compliance, and cost management.
- Proven ability to collaborate with executives and senior leadership to foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to plan at a strategic level while executing key operational duties.
- Able to lead teams to produce quality results in a fast-paced and result-driven organization.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities in a changing environment.
