The Mint is hiring a Director, Technical Operations & Quality Systems who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Ottawa Manufacturing, the Director is responsible for establishing the strategic direction of the Ottawa Engineering, Quality Systems and Technical Services departments to ensure Ottawa Manufacturing is operating at optimum efficiency with world class technology and best practices. This role requires a strong leader to drive innovation, continuously improve manufacturing performance and establish strategic relationships with our technology partners. The incumbent is responsible for leading a team of approximately 75 people.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of advanced technologies and solutions to improve safety, capacity, sustainability, quality, efficiency and identify new opportunities across Numismatic, Bullion, and Refinery operations.
- Lead product engineering, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and operational capabilities.
- Ensure engineering specifications and technical drawings for processes, equipment, tooling, products, and components are developed.
- Ensure effective maintenance of infrastructure and equipment, implement predictive/preventive programs, and manage facilities planning, landlord relations, and emergency preparedness.
- Lead budgeting ($22M) and capital investments ($6–10M) for Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Facilities to support growth and operational goals.
- Ensure ISO 9001:2015 compliance, drive corrective actions, and champion continuous improvement, training, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships and external partnerships to enhance performance, support manufacturing targets, and deliver customer satisfaction.
- Inspire team performance through coaching and feedback, and lead workforce planning, recruitment, and succession initiatives for the team.
This opening is to be filled on a hybrid working arrangement where you will be required to work from the Ottawa location a minimum of three days per week up to five days depending on operational requirements.
Requirements
Languages Requirements:
- An advanced level of bilingual proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required at the time of hire. If a bilingual candidate is not identified, other candidate language profiles may be considered in accordance with the Mint’s Staffing Policy.
Education & Designation:
- University degree in Engineering, Business or a related field.
- Professional Engineering licence is a strong asset.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience applying engineering principles, best practices, and emerging technologies to lead and drive innovation.
- Demonstrated expertise in leading complex projects with strong project management skillsExperience working in a unionized environment is considered a strong asset.
