The Mint is hiring an Environmental Management System (EMS) Advisor, Corporate Environment who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment. 

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Environment, the EMS Advisor is responsible for managing the various components associated with the Mint’s environmental management system as well as providing comprehensive environmental guidance and provides technical support to our stakeholders. The EMS Advisor will ensure professional and quality delivery of environmental services and will work closely with the entire Corporate Health, Safety and Environment (CHSE) team.

This opportunity is open to either Winnipeg or Ottawa locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Mint’s Environmental Management System (EMS) conforms to all the requirements of the ISO 14001:2015 standard. This includes (but is not limited to) conducting audits, managing the EMS Management Review process, and ensuring actions related to EMS deficiencies and opportunities for improvement are tracked and completed in a timely manner.
  • Develop, implement and maintain documentation related to the Mint’s Environmental Management System and the Mint’s environmental practices to ensure environmental aspects are effectively monitored, managed and compliant with federal environmental legislation/regulations. Develop and deliver training where required.
  • Communicates changes regarding programs, procedures and guidelines by developing strategies using a variety of communication methods.
  • Provides technical expertise to operations by conducting research and sampling programs, verifying quality of data, analyzing results, and providing recommendations to internal stakeholders.
  • Evaluates new and existing processes, equipment, chemicals and large projects using various review forms, tools and environmental audits to determine applicable environmental legislation and identify opportunities to improve environmental aspects and impacts of the project such as water, electricity and chemical consumption.

This position requires on site work 3 days per week.

Requirements

Language Requirements

  • An intermediate level of bilingual proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required at the time of hire. If a bilingual candidate is not identified, other candidate language profiles may be considered in accordance with the Mint’s Staffing Policy.

 

Education

  • University degree or certificate in Engineering or Science discipline, and/or a combination of education and relevant work experience.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years related experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality due to the sensitive information regarding incident investigations.
  • Able to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of an organization, and demonstrate a customer focused attitude.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on professional judgment in a complex work environment.
  • Demonstrates creativity / innovative thinking.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ability to learn various software applications for the management of environmental related information.

 

Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of ISO14001 standard and auditing/inspection processes. Completion of ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management System and Internal Auditor training considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal environmental legislation.
  • Understands qualitative and quantitative environmental issues, risks or opportunities, including their cumulative effect and corresponding economic, social and cultural impacts
