The Mint is hiring a Manager, Ottawa Planning in Ottawa who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Reporting to the Director, Planning and Integration, the successful candidate will play a key role as an internal service provider, translating sales forecasts and firm orders into an executable plan for Ottawa manufacturing operations. The role must balance production resources across the organization and employ Lean planning strategies to reduce waste in the production process while continuing to foster a culture of safety, inclusion, employee engagement and professional growth.

Leading a small team, the Manager will leverage both internal resources and subcontractors to deliver on a diverse product line. Cross-site integration with Winnipeg will be needed to ensure a One Mint planning approach for product lines that are shared between the two sites. They will also interface within the broader Operations and Technical teams to highlight BOM/routing/standard inaccuracies causing production plans to be unachievable so that they can be investigated and corrected.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Champion health and safety by upholding safe work practices, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a culture where safety is a top priority.
  • Foster an inclusive, and accessible workplace that promotes employee engagement, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Beginning with the new product introduction process, convert customer sales forecasts and opportunities into production and material requirement schedules that support on-time fulfillment of customer demand while balancing capacity, optimal inventory levels and minimized obsolescence risk. Identify, quantify and note mitigation strategies for any planning and capacity risks during the product introduction process.
  • Oversee the generation of daily planning schedules for manufacturing using Lean principles, communicating priorities to operations and monitoring execution to the plan.
  • Work daily with Ottawa operations managers and directors to optimize efficiency while meeting the needs of internal and external customers and stakeholders. Collaborate with the Manager, Production Planning (WPG) to implement a cohesive One Mint plan where production chains spans both sites.
  • Lead weekly production status meetings for both plant management and the Numismatic and Bullion Sales teams. Advise, problem-solve and recommend plan changes or risk mitigation strategies to ensure timely resolution of factors which could impact customer experience.
  • Establish performance metrics, goals and performance evaluation processes in line with corporate and divisional functional objectives. Produce regular reports and statistics as required to ensure operations run efficiently. Succinctly articulate past and forward-looking performance to Operations and Commercial teams.
  • Identify and contribute production information to the RCM Operations and Technical teams for investigation into issues that will impact operational excellence, costing or customer experience.
  • Coordinate the integration of trials (product and process) into the production streams and advise of capacity or execution constraints.
  • Understand what future impacts may affect the direction of the division and recommend organizational needs in the short/medium term to execute on the business plan.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish shared goals and drive organizational success.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring on-site presence at our Ottawa location three to five days per week, depending on meeting requirements and other activities

Requirements

Languages Requirements:

Education & Designation:

  • Technical diploma or University degree in a related field.
  • CPIM certification (an APICS organization designation) is considered an asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of related business experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience leading teams, projects, or business initiatives.
  • Experience with forecasting, data-mining and data analysis and translating findings into crisp and concise reports for senior leaders of an organization.
  • Proven track record of implementing business improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste.
  • Strong knowledge of the manufacturing elements of an ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred).
  • Experience and knowledge of Lean and/or Six Sigma manufacturing principles.
  • Effective communicator able to engage and influence a diverse group of stakeholders to successfully execute production plans to meet customer requirements, identify and resolve any conflicting priorities.   
  • Significant experience in a unionized manufacturing environment with a focus on health and safety and continuous improvement.

  • Ability to respond effectively under pressure, including situations such as equipment failure, employee injury, or cost control challenges.
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities in a changing environment.
