The Mint is hiring a Project Engineer for a 12-month term who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Process Engineering, the Project Engineer is responsible for providing leadership, project management and delivering on a variety of operational plans and capital projects for the Ottawa facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage Ottawa capital projects to ensure process related equipment, building systems, and building renovations are scoped, planned, budgeted and executed safely, on time and on budget.
- Collaborates with Senior Management to understand operational requirements, along with historical and predictive analysis, advises and makes recommendations.
- Responsible for the preparation of capital project business cases, while ensuring input is obtained from key operational stakeholders.
- Manages contractors to ensure that they meet contractual requirements and expected standards.
- Collaborates with purchasing to ensure the procurement process is efficient and effective to successfully implement the RCM’s capital plan.
- Implement project management best practices, define a clear scope, develop a detailed project plan, manage changes effectively, ensure transparent communication, maintain project schedules, control budgets, and provide regular status updates.
This opening is to be filled on a hybrid working arrangement, and the incumbent will be required to work from the Ottawa location a minimum of 3 days a week which could change based on operational requirements.

Requirements
Languages Requirements:
- An intermediate level of bilingual proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required at the time of hire. If a bilingual candidate is not identified, other candidate language profiles may be considered in accordance with the Mint’s Staffing Policy.
Education & Designation:
- University degree in Engineering is a must, specialization in Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering or equivalent is an asset.
- Professional Engineer or Engineering Intern (PEO or OIQ).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be considered an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an Engineering and Project Management field.
Additional Qualifications:
- Knowledge of building structural codes and HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of Canada Labour Code Part II and Occupational H&S Regulations.
- Experience with managing multi-million dollar capital projects.
- Experience preparing business cases, budgets and controlling expenses.
- Experience with contractor evaluation and management.
- Aptitude and ability to understand complex equipment and processes.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Shows a high level of integrity.
- Ability to be autonomous and a self-starter.
- Ability to lead, influence and engage a team while managing competing priorities.
- Able to collaborate with other team members, with the ability to influence and persuade others while also being open to receiving suggestions and feedback.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, verbal and written.
- Strong planning and organization skills.
