They are Canada's coin superstars! The beaver, Bluenose, caribou, loon and polar bear — these are the images we're used to seeing on our everyday coins. Sometimes, we'll issue a special version of a coin that features a different image. Maybe it's for a special event; maybe it's to learnor talk about something new. But Canada's coin“friends” never stay away for long — we'd miss them too much. Our circulation superstars are together in this set that gives you one of every classic denomination for 2019: 5-cents, 10-cents, 25-cents, one-dollar and two-dollar. But there's one more piece…
For the rare 50-cent coin, we gathered our old friends and sent them on a little adventure to discover Canada. The colour image shows them looking in every direction beneath a blue sky, while the maple leaf standstall in the background. When you view the coin in the dark, that same sky is lit up by the Northern Lights. And the proud maple leaf from the daytime scene? It's still there!
Fun for collectors of all ages, all our circulation stars onone coin! Order today!

Design:
On the 50-cent coin, the reverse design by Darren Booth features Canada's classic circulation designs re-imagined in a modern illustration style. The 25-cent's caribou joins the two-dollar coin's polar bear, which stands at the edge of an ice floe. The dollar's loon flies across the blue sky, while the ten-cent's Bluenose sails on the sea. The five-cent beaver looks up at the big proud red maple leaf in awe. When the glow-in-the-dark feature is activated, the characters all become silhouettes against the night sky, where the maple leaf is faintly visible against the glowing aurora borealis. The reverse includes the engraved word “CANADA” and the date “2019”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty QueenElizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
Did you know…
- 1937: That's the year the beaver, caribou and Bluenose first appeared on Canada's coins. Fifty years later (1987), the loon landed on a new dollar coin. And in 1996, Churchill the polar bear made his big debut on the “toonie.”
- Circulation coins are the ones we use for our everyday purchases. Every single Canadian circulation coin comes fromour high-tech facility in Winnipeg, where 50-ton presses strike more than one billion coins each year!
- The same artist is behind the beaver and caribou designs. His name? Emanuel Hahn. Today, we work with Canadian artists of all ages, like Joelle Wong, who was eight years old when she designed the 2017 My Canada,My Inspiration 25-cent coin. There's always a place for Canadian art on our coins — keep drawing and creating, Canada!
