Back by popular demand! Two new stamp-shaped coins that pays tribute to Canadian philately! Subscribe today!
On the 200th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Victoria's birth, this stamp-inspired collectible looks back at what collectors consider to be the Dominion of Canada's first commemorative stamps: the 1897 “Jubilee” issue. Re-created in the deep blue colour of the original 50-cent stamp, the dual-portrait design is a tribute to a sovereign who helped shape the Canada of today, whose May birthday is still celebrated by Canadians 200 years later in most provinces and territories in Canada.
And, on June 14, 1919, a modified First World War Vickers Vimy bomber lifted off from St. John's, Newfoundland and flew straight into the history books. British aviators John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown persevered through a rough takeoff, equipment failures, fog, ice and snow before crash-landing the next day in County Galway, Ireland. In doing so, they became the first aviators to cross the Atlantic Ocean in less than 72 consecutive hours—a new milestone in aviation history. In 1969, Canada Post issued a 15-cent stamp to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first non-stop transatlantic flight. Now, 50 years after that special issue—and on the centennial of this aviation first—the Canadian stamp is forever immortalized on this stamp-shaped, 99.99% fine silver coin.

First coin design:
The deep blue on your coin is a reproduction of Canada's 1897 “Jubilee Issue” 50-cent stamp that was originally designed by Peleg Franklin Brownell and Lyndwode Charles Pereira. The portrait on the left is based on an 1837 painting of Her Majesty Queen Victoria by Alfred Edward Chalon, R. A., while the portrait on the right is based on an 1882 photograph by Alexander Bassano. Between the two portraits are the initials “VRI” (Victoria Regina Imperatrix) and the dual dates “1837 and “1897” that reflectthe Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty's reign. The obverse features a repeating maple leaf pattern behind the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II bySusanna Blunt. The obverse includes the year “2019”, the legend “ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA” and the face value “50 CENTS”.
Second coin design:
Engraved on your stamp-shaped coin is a colour reproduction of a 1969 Canadian postage stamp, designed by Robert William Bradford and issued on the 50th anniversary ofthe first non-stop transatlantic flight. The original 15-cent stamp features a stylized map of the North Atlantic Ocean behind the Vickers Vimy bomber piloted by British aviators John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brow, who completed their historic flight from St. John's, Newfoundland, to Clifden, Ireland, onJune 14-15, 1919. Like the original issue, the design includes the word “CANADA”, the historic flight date “1919”, and the stamp's “15”-cent denomination. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
