The year 2020 marked the 150th anniversary of Manitoba's entry into Confederation, and we're commemorating this milestone with a special issue: a2 oz. pure silver version of the 1970 Manitoba Centennial nickel dollar. This commemorative piece is nearly twice the size and every bit as detailed as the original issue—it even features the same effigy (by Arnold Machin) on its obverse.
"The year 2020 marked 150 years since the Manitoba Act received royal assent, paving the way for Manitoba to become Canada's fifth province. Manitoba 150 "United in Celebration –Unis dans la fête" emphasizes that our province is in the heart of the country, uniting the east and the west. The unbroken line of the logo represents our unity and the strong connection we feel to our home, uniting us as Manitobans. We are thrilled that the Mint is re-releasing the Centennial coin, depicting the Manitoba Crocus, while also now incorporating the Manitoba 150 logo, to mark our sesquicentennial in 2020." Brad Robertson, Chief of Protocol and Manitoba 150 Committee Member

Design:
The reverse is a 2 oz.-sized reproduction of the 1970 Manitoba Centennial nickel dollar by Canadian artist Raymond Taylor. The obverse features a laser-engraved repeating pattern of the Manitoba 150 logo behind the historic effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin.
"I have fond memories of my grandfather sharing his passion for coins with me as a little girl. He had a few 1970 Manitoba Centennial dollars in his collection so I recognized thisimage right away. Coins have this way of connectingus to share memories. I look forward to hearing those amazing Manitoba stories from our visitors and sharing mine with my daughter one day."
