All four coins feature a full hologram image from edge to edge. The reverse design by artist Luc Normandin is a traditional portrait of four young sugar maple leaves (Acer saccharum) on a twig. When the coin is tilted from side to side, the hologram technology colourfully mimics the look of engraved relief. The holographic reverse includes the words “CANADA”, the coin's purity and weight, and the year “2020”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

• The sugar maple (featured on this coin) is arguably the most famous maple in Canada. Its sap has the highest concentration of sugar, which makes it ideal for maple syrup production.
