THE LEGEND
In ancient times, a great flood happened that threatened thesurvival of the Squamish people. The people banded together in canoes and tied their hands to En cheki (now Mount Garibaldi in British Columbia) so they wouldn’t drift away. A thunderbird caught a salmon anddropped it into the canoes, ensuring the people’s survival—a story that illustrates the importance of co-operation and the powerful, inter-connection between man and nature.
