About
$15 Sterling Silver Coin – King Edward VII (2008)
Following the Queen Victoria coin (2008) this exceptional series continues with Edward VII (reigned 1901-1910) who, at 59, was the oldest Prince of Wales to become king. The Edwardian Age was shaped by his love of sport and theatre and for his concentrated efforts to foster goodwill among monarchs throughout Europe - an endeavour for which he became affectionately known as the "Uncle of Europe".This series of coin effigies retraces 170 years from Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II. Each design has been approved by HerMajesty Queen Elizabeth II, preserving the tradition that has governed the preparation of all royal effigies for centuries.
Highlights
The Mint's first double-effigy coins are unlikeanything coin collectors have seen before. Featuring for the first time an ultrahigh relief that was traditionally reserved for medallic art, each effigy has been struck four times, painstakingly worked by hand and then polished to achieve a mirror-like effect.
Reverse
A reproduction of the effigy of King Edward VII that appeared on Canada's 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50-cent coins from 1902 to 1910.
