"Forget me not!" cried the drowning knight and thename of this springtime wildflower was born.According to legend, a medieval knight was pickingflowers for his lady along a riverbank when he fell intothe water under the weight of his armour. Ever since,the 50 species of Myosotis have been called "forget-menot"in countless countries worldwide and theirromantic symbolism for tragedy and faithful loveendures to this day.
These endearing flowers are indeed unforgettable. Theblossoms consist of five petals with a delicate yellowcentre and measure just 1 cm (.4 in) across, but theygrow with such profusion that they blanket the entirearea in soft blue, white or pink. This flower'spreference is by far the rich, moist soil found along thewater's edge and gardeners that match these conditionswill be treated to a welcome explosion of colour everyspring!
