The First World War was to be the "war to end allwars." Never before had the world seen thedestruction that airplanes, tanks and submarines couldbring. Never before had it witnessed the ravages oftrench warfare—the terrible artillery fire, sweepingmachine guns and lethal poison gas.
Over 65 million soldiers from around the world wentinto battle. Historians estimate up to 10 million losttheir lives while 20 million were wounded. Today, asthe world pays tribute to the last surviving veterans,these coins will forever honour the memory of allwho served—lest we forget.
