The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) is hiring a Director, Strategic Procurement (SP) who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Reporting to the CFO and Vice-President, Finance & Administration, the incumbent is responsible for developing and maintaining a robust sourcing strategy and streamlining processes to ensure overall best value procurement is achieved and external spending has been optimized. In this role, you will ensure that the Procurement group continuously monitors the enterprise sourcing needs, researches the marketplace and assesses its ability to meet those needs. You will be responsible for building transparency of spending and considering key risks related to our vendors with a continual focus on cost saving strategies. As a strategic business partner, you will expertly work with the business lines, the Supply Chain team and risk managers to support optimal delivery for the RCM. You will also lead a team of Category Managers and Specialists to deliver on the Procurement mandate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for execution on timely delivery of strategic revenue and cost savings programs and sourcing strategies to achieve procurement targets.
  • Leads Procurement Operations, Governance and the Contract Management functions.
  • Responsible for the supplier strategy for responsible spend categories and key suppliers.
  • Routinely interfaces with senior leaders and key internal stakeholders to ensure satisfaction with the Procurement department’s service offerings and accomplishments. Promotes the services and value proposition of SP and drives a customer service and partner culture.
  • Responsible to ensure accurate and timely flow of information to suppliers to support best practice negotiations, contracts, performance management and spend strategies.
  • Partners with the Procurement Governance and Contract Manager to ensure Legal, Finance, Marketing and Operations receive consistent communication and resolution of legal and risk issues throughout the contract negotiation and approval process.
  • Responsible for all ongoing leadership activities including performance management, objectives setting and supporting development activities to ensure direct reports are successful.
  • Accountable for focusing the teams to deliver on continuous improvement and transformation initiatives, including having the right tools for the business.
  • Accountable to ensure key performance indicators are monitored and makes course-corrections where necessary to meet the established targets/goals.
  • Accountable for ensuring regulatory requirements are met including Trade Agreement obligations regarding covered procurements and child and forced labour due diligence and reporting.
  • Ensuring that procurements consider ESG aspects and are in accordance with the ESG guideline.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of related business experience in strategic sourcing, category management, contracting, supplier management & procurement.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Expert experience in building a progressive procurement function.
  • Successful experience negotiating complex agreements with suppliers and understands mutual gains approach.
  • Great ability to drive change across the organization and in partnership with strategic suppliers while incorporating best practices.
  • Demonstrated success at strategic communications, both verbal and written to Senior Leaders on enhancing RCM’s brand and competitive positioning.
  • Strong ability to lead, motivate and coach direct reports as well as cross-functional team members.
  • Track record of building comprehensive category strategies in several areas with engagement of stakeholders. In addition to providing the strategy, you have demonstrated success telling the story on delivering strategic priorities; drive the Procurement vision and culture that should be across the company and in the external market.
  • Demonstrated success implementing a sourcing methodology that addresses all critical aspects ranging from understanding client needs to supplier capabilities.
  • Customer driven: Demonstrated success in aligning the customer service strategy with the procurement processes.
  • Bilingual in both official languages (English and French) or able to attain an intermediate level of bilingual proficiency after enrolling in the Mint’s offered languages training.
  • University degree in related area or an acceptable combination of education and experience related to the job.
