The Corporate Health and Safety (CHS) Summer Student will assist in various improvements, projects and initiatives under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Corporate Health and Safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with completing industrial hygiene and ergonomic assessments as well as risk evaluations.
- Assist with training delivery on a variety of health and safety subjects.
- Provide recommendations on health and safety observations to management and employees.
- Support the Workplace Health and Safety Committee initiatives.
- Liaise with section managers/supervisors on health and safety related matters including occupational hygiene assessments;
- Track health and safety data and assist in implementing defined initiatives to improve health and safety performance of the organization
- Attend plant walkabouts and site inspections, identify if an employee’s health and safety is being affected by their work and identify corrective and preventive actions required;
- May be asked to help with environmental-related activities.
Requirements
- Currently in final year of an Occupational Health and Safety Bachelors degree or completing a post-graduate degree in Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Health, or related fields.
- Experience or strong interest in health and safety management and/or industrial hygiene.
- Ability to work autonomously on designated tasks.
- Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to interact well with people; responsive and sensitive to customer needs.
- Bilingual an asset (English/French).
